School Rules

National Anthem / Pledge

• All students must attend the flag-raising ceremony.

• Students who are Singapore citizens must sing the National Anthem and take the Pledge.

• Students will take the Pledge with the right fist placed over the heart.

Punctuality

• Students who arrive after the flag-raising ceremony are regarded as late. Those who are frequently late will be subjected to the school’s disciplinary measures.

Attire

• Students are to wear the prescribed school uniform and modification to the uniform is not allowed.

• On days when students have PE or PAL lessons, they may come to school in their PE attire.

• Students should avoid wearing wallet chains, hooks, or accessories that detract from the neat appearance of the uniform.

• Name tags must be sewn above the shirt pocket for the school uniform and on the left side of the PE T-shirt.

• Shirts, blouses, and T-shirts should be tucked in neatly at all times.

Shoes

• Students are required to wear black shoes and black school socks, with socks worn above the ankle.

• Students who are unable to wear shoes due to injury or medical reasons must provide a parental letter or medical certificate to their form teacher.

Hairstyles

• Students must maintain neat hair in its natural colour.

• Girls with long hair (shoulder length or longer) should tie it up neatly, ensuring that the fringe does not cover the eyebrows. All hair accessories must be black or dark-coloured.

• Boys must be neat in appearance, and clean-shaven. No facial hair is allowed.

• Boys must keep their hair short and are not allowed to have permed hairstyles.

Accessories

• Students are not allowed to wear jewellery or expensive watches.

• Girls can only wear one plain ear stud on each ear lobe.

• No student is allowed to pierce other parts of their body (e.g., nose, tongue, face).

Handphones and Smart Devices

• The use of smartphones, smartwatches, and other electronic devices is strictly prohibited during school hours, including curriculum time, recess, and after-school programmes.

• Students who need to bring these devices to school must switch them off and store them securely in their bags throughout the day. Failure to comply may result in the device being confiscated.

• These devices may only be used outside the school or at the foyer to contact parents for pick-up.

• The school will not be responsible for any loss or damage to these items.

Other Prohibited Items

• Students are not allowed to bring any weapon-like items or objects intended to cause harm to others.

• Vapes and e-cigarettes are strictly prohibited.

• Any violation may result in the school reporting the matter to the relevant legal authorities if necessary.

Request For Early Dismissal

• Parents who wish to take their child home early for any valid reason must inform the teachers and record the early dismissal in the Early Dismissal Book at the General Office.

• Students are strictly not permitted to use the General Office phone to contact their parents, except in cases of emergency. Parents are expected to arrange pick-up times with their child in advance.

Photography and Videography

• Photographs and videos of students and parents/guardians at Anderson Primary School may be taken during school activities and events, including lessons, CCAs, camps, and award ceremonies. These images may be used in school publications, on the school website, social media channels, and other official communications.

• Parents/guardians may withdraw consent for the use of their child’s images by emailing the school at anderson_ps@moe.edu.sg ↗ (opens in new tab).

• To safeguard student privacy, personal photography and videography are strictly prohibited within the school premises, including common areas such as the foyer and during dismissal. For official events, the school may designate specific times and zones for photography, which will be clearly communicated in advance.

Delivery Of Items To School

• Students are responsible for packing their own belongings. The school will not accept or deliver items to students, except for medication. Allowing students to experience the consequences of forgetting their items, including being reminded or scolded by their teachers, helps them develop responsibility and independence.

ANTI-BULLYING POLICY

Our Commitment

At Anderson Primary School, every child has the right to feel safe, valued, and supported in their learning. We are committed to fostering a caring and enabling environment where children can flourish and develop positive relationships.

We explicitly teach and model our LIGHT values, including respect, empathy, and kindness, and work in strong partnership with parents to nurture a shared sense of belonging within our school community.

We recognise that children may experience misunderstandings or conflicts as part of growing up. These situations will be addressed through guidance and support. However, we make a clear distinction between such incidents and hurtful or bullying behaviours, which require a different and firmer response.

What are Hurtful Behaviours and Bullying?

Hurtful behaviours refer to unkind actions that cause distress, including one-off incidents such as insensitive remarks or physical aggression. Bullying refers to repeated and intentional acts of harm, often involving a pattern of behaviour and/or an imbalance of power.

Both hurtful and bullying behaviours may take the form of:

• Verbal: Name-calling, insults, threats, spreading rumours

• Social: Exclusion, isolation, or influencing others to ignore someone

• Physical: Hitting, pushing, or damaging belongings

• Cyber: Repeated use of digital platforms to humiliate, threaten, or harm

How We Proactively Educate Children

• Explicit teaching of LIGHT values through assemblies, Values-of-the-Month, and school-wide programmes and events

• Structured Form Teacher Guidance Periods and CCE lessons on empathy, conflict resolution, resilience, and cyber wellness

• A positive school culture supported by strong teacher–student relationships and student leadership

• Ongoing communication of expected behaviours, with timely guidance and correction of misbehaviour by all staff

How We Respond

The school adopts a firm stance towards all forms of hurtful behaviours and maintains a zero tolerance towards bullying. While responses are always proportionate to context, any behaviour that causes harm to others is not condoned.

• Immediate safety: We act promptly to ensure the physical and emotional safety of all children. Parents will be informed that a school-based fact-finding process will begin.

• Fact-finding & updates: We conduct fair and timely fact-finding through conversations with the children over time, as well as with relevant parties. We then triangulate the information gathered to ensure accuracy and fairness. Depending on the complexity of the case, this process takes time, and updates will be provided within 3, 7, or 21 days for cross-level or more complex cases.

• Consequences & accountability: Appropriate consequences will be applied in line with school guidelines. Please refer to Annex A for details on classification of offences and consequences. The school may not disclose individual consequences to other parents, in order to protect the privacy and dignity of all children involved.

• Student support: We put in place support plans for both affected children and those involved, addressing their emotional, behavioural, and relational needs. As an educational institution, our focus is on guiding children’ learning, responsibility, and behavioural growth.

• Restorative approaches: Where appropriate, we use restorative practices to support reflection and, when suitable, facilitate reconciliation between children, alongside counselling support and/or external referrals.

• Parent partnership: We work closely with parents throughout the process to support resolution, learning, and shared responsibility.

How to Report Concerns

We encourage early reporting and open communication. Concerns may be raised through:

• Form Teachers

• School reporting channels (e.g., designated reporting box or online form via SLS)

• Year Heads, Discipline Masters, or school leaders via email

How Parents Can Support

Understand that discipline is a shared responsibility between home and school.

• Engage your child regularly in conversations about school life and friendships, and guide them on safe, respectful ways to respond to unkind behaviour without causing hurt to others.

• Reinforce respectful behaviour and responsible digital habits at home. Your child picks up your habits and language too!

• Monitor your child’s online and offline interactions appropriately to support safe and responsible choices.

• Work in partnership with the school on agreed interventions to support your child’s development and well-being, reinforcing a consistent message that home and school are working together in your child’s best interests.

• Use everyday situations as teachable moments to build your child’s understanding of respect, empathy, and responsibility.

This policy is reviewed annually to ensure it remains relevant and effective. Together, as partners, let’s build a safe, respectful, and caring school community for our children.
