Learning Support Programme
We want every child at Anderson Primary School to feel confident in maths from day one. Our LSM programme provides gentle, early intervention for Primary 1 to Primary 4 students who are still building their foundational numeracy skills. Through a brief screening at the beginning of P1, we identify students who would benefit from a more tailored approach. These students learn during regular curriculum hours in small, focused groups, allowing our dedicated LSM Teachers to provide the personalised attention and encouragement they need to thrive.
Spatial Visualisation Skills Programme (P1)
The Spatial Visualisation Skills Programme aims to enhance our lower primary students’ visual and spatial awareness. The use of Tangram Puzzle not only keeps our young minds engaged but also deepens their interest and understanding in topics which require visual-spatial skills as they move up the levels.
Connecting Mathematics to the Real World
We believe in bringing learning to life by showing students how mathematics exists all around them. Through our Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach, students step into the shoes of mathematicians, collaborating to solve open-ended, real-life challenges. Working together to reflect our school’s LIGHT values, these hands-on activities foster creative problem-solving, visualisation, and logical reasoning, proving that maths is a powerful tool for addressing real-world challenges.
Nurturing Mathematical Potential (P5 & P6)
We offer targeted enrichment opportunities such as the Excellence 2000 (E2K) Mathematics Programme. This inquiry-based initiative deepens conceptual understanding and develops advanced mathematical reasoning by engaging students in collaborative puzzles, games, and explorations. By cultivating the inventive dispositions of true mathematicians alongside the 21st-century competencies like critical thinking and effective communication, the programme thoroughly prepares our learners to excel. Furthermore, students who demonstrate exceptional aptitude are selected to represent the school in Mathematics competition such as the Asia Pacific Mathematical Olympiad for Primary Schools (APMOPS), the Raffles Mathematical Olympiad (RMO), and the NUS High School National Mathematical Olympiad of Singapore (NMOS), empowering them to continually challenge their limits and shine on a larger stage.
