Programmes
Higher Mother Tongue Language (HMTL)
A curriculum designed to stretch students who demonstrate strong aptitude and interest in their Mother Tongue Language. It provides a more in-depth curriculum beyond the standard MTL syllabus, incorporating complex texts, ethnic literature, and higher-order thinking tasks to further extend and challenge learners.
Mother Tongue Support Programme (MTSP)
A two-year initiative for Primary 3 and Primary 4 students, designed to provide additional support for learners who require assistance in the learning of their Mother Tongue Language (MTL).
Mother Tongue Fortnight (MTF)
Mother Tongue Fortnight is an annual two-week programme. It aims to nurture a love for the Tamil language among students while instilling a strong sense of pride and connection to their cultural roots.
Through a rich array of meaningful learning experiences beyond the classroom, students engage in hands-on activities such as language games, quizzes, language exchange sessions, and learning journeys. These novel and engaging activities provide authentic opportunities for students to experience the language in joyful and dynamic ways.
As students immerse themselves in these experiences, they apply the language skills learnt in class, develop cultural literacy, and deepen their appreciation of the beauty and richness of the Tamil language and culture.
AndPS Read
Under the MTL initiative, starting with Primary 1 and 2, 30 minutes of MTL lesson per week will be dedicated to reading and reading-related activities using the supplementary readers. Through the SOAR initiative, our youngest Andersonians will Spark interest, Open minds, Appreciate cultural roots and Rise as bilingual readers.
The Tamil Reading Club is an ongoing programme that nurtures a love for reading and encourages students to share their learning with peers. Through engaging and thoughtfully curated activities, students develop critical and creative thinking skills while deepening their interest in the Tamil language. The club also provides opportunities for collaborative learning, helping students broaden their perspectives and grow as confident, independent readers.
